- Prepared rolled fondant
- Cutting board dusted with confectioners' sugar
- Fondant roller, daisy cutter, tools, and food coloring.
Step 2: Knead then roll out fondant to 1/8 inch thickness. Press daisy cutter firmly into dough without turning. Using sharp tool, cut around the daisy if necessary to ensure smooth edge.
Step 3: Using curved tool, make indentations in the daisy cutout to resemble folds in petals.
Step 4: Place daisy cutouts on waxed paper to dry (24 hours is best).
Step 5: Using gel food coloring on the end of a toothpick, place a tiny amount onto the center of a flattened piece of fondant. Fold the fondant over the food coloring and knead until the color is uniform. You might want to use latex gloves for this step - the food coloring can stain your hands.
Step 6: Make 1/2 inch balls by rolling pieces of fondant between palms. To make the flower centers dome-shaped, press a ball between your thumb and forefinger while turning against the surface until cone-shaped, then press gently on top to flatten slightly.
Step 7: Using a tiny bit of icing on the under sides of the flower centers, attach them to the daisy cutouts.
Step 8: When dry, press lightly onto frosting to adhere. Below, the daisies decorate jumbo cupcakes with lemon buttercream frosting.
Thank you so much for this blog post... I am currently planning a wedding for July 2, 2011 and I am using white and yellow daisies for my flowers. I had decided that I wanted to do something totally different for my wedding cake, so I decided on cupcakes. On top we are going to have a single tier for my fiance and I to take home with us.... while searching for inspriations I ran accross your blog, and I immediately fell head over heals in love with these cupcakes... I think they are totally perfect... My best friends mom has already agreeed to do them and I went to Michaels craft store today to buy the fondant cutter! I also ran accross something that I think you might enjoy looking at (or you may already have one). It was a silicone sheet what had a raised design on it, and you take your fondant and roll it out on top, and the sheet creates the impression of the design on it. It was $19.99 at our Michaels, and came in three or four designs. One had baloons and things and Happy Birthday written on it and the others were floral. They were so cool and I think you might really like to try them!!! Thanks so much for the inspiration, oh did I mention we are going to do a light blue icing to match our bridesmaids dresses instead of the yellow!
